In order to ensure the health protection of all employees, Fraunhofer EMFT has further tightened its already high safety standards at workplace safety.
When it comes to safety at work, the employees at the Fraunhofer EMFT are well experienced: Every laboratory and every clean room has its own safety instructions, which the researchers must strictly follow - for example, when handling hazardous substances in the semiconductor clean room or operating roll-to-roll pilot lines for flexible electronics. In addition, if the risk assessment stipulates it, at least two people must be present in a laboratory. This helps to minimize the extent of damage in the event of an accident, which can never be ruled out completely. Health and safety at work is a standard topic of the performance reviews at Fraunhofer EMFT, and regular participation in safety briefings is a normal routine for the staff.
However, the corona crisis has also changed the everyday working life at the Munich research institution: For example, 2-shift operations in the clean rooms and occupancy schedules for the laboratories were introduced to allow the safety distance between colleagues. Personalized protective masks are also provided for work that researchers have to do jointly.
The safety distance also applies to the offices: For this reason, in addition to the possibilities created for mobile working, the meeting and seminar rooms at the Fraunhofer EMFT have been converted into flexible open-plan offices with plenty of space between colleagues.
Daily disinfection of door handles and handrails and a dispenser for hand disinfection at the entrance further contribute to reducing the risk of infection in the workplace.
The highest priority for Fraunhofer EMFT is to protect its employees from infection with the new virus in the workplace. A crisis management team regularly consults with each other on the latest developments and findings in the corona crisis and immediately translates these into measures to protect all employees at the Fraunhofer EMFT.
