Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Sensors and Applied Systems at Tel Aviv University

Since the end of June 2022, Fraunhofer EMFT and Tel Aviv University (TAU) have been operating the "Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Sensors and Applied Systems at Tel Aviv University (FIP-SENS@TAU)" in Tel Aviv. The research unit conducts interdisciplinary research and development in the field of sensor technology at the highest level. The goal is to advance technology transfer for sensor systems and become a globally recognized solution provider for customers from business, industry, as well as academic and public research institutions.

Cooperation

The collaboration has been extremely successful so far. Not only have projects been initiated with several small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), but an exchange program for students has also been set up. One example of this is Fraunhofer EMFT doctoral student Sonja Hoffmann, who spent three months at Tel Aviv University.

“At Tel Aviv University, I had the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team with researchers from biology and electrical engineering. Together we developed electrochemical biosensors to monitor plant health. The working atmosphere was inspiring and the whole experience was extremely enriching for me,” says Hoffmann enthusiastically about her stay.

In 2023, FIP-SENS@TAU reached a significant milestone: the first joint EU project under the Horizon Europe program was won. Work has successfully begun on the UnderSec (Underwater Security) security project, which is being carried out in collaboration with an international consortium of partners from Europe and Israel.

Despite challenging framework conditions, our team continues to demonstrate its commitment and innovative strength in order to continuously drive cooperation forward.

The management of FIP-SENS@TAU is in the hands of a strong leadership team: Prof. Yossi Rosenwaks (FIP Managing Director, TAU) and Dr. Habil. Sabine Trupp (FIP Managing Director, Fraunhofer EMFT) as well as Prof. Slava Krylov (FIP Technical Director, TAU) and Christian Wald (FIP Technical Director, Fraunhofer EMFT).
