The European conference on microelectronic trends, roadmaps and strategic alignment

On 30 September – 1 October 2026 FIRST by FMD will bring together leading decision-makers from industry, research, and politics in Berlin to actively shape the future of European microelectronics. The conference offers a platform for discussion on technological trends, industrial implementation, and the competitiveness of the European semiconductor ecosystem. Semiconductors are a key technology for economic resilience, technological sovereignty, and sustainable growth. Against the backdrop of the EU Chips Act and other European initiatives, the development of strong microelectronics infrastructures and value chains is becoming increasingly important. FIRST promotes dialogue between research and industry and accelerates the transfer of innovations into practical applications.

FIRST – Fast Innovation through Research in Semiconductor Technologies

This European conference offers in-depth insights into current technological developments, industrial roadmaps, and the development of future infrastructure and innovation ecosystems across the entire semiconductor value chain. Particular emphasis is placed on the transfer of research findings into industrial applications, the expansion of resilient supply and production chains, and the strengthening of European technological sovereignty in the face of global competition. FIRST addresses key future topics such as chiplet architectures, advanced packaging, AI-enabled semiconductor applications, and sustainable manufacturing technologies.

Participants from key industries such as automotive, AI, healthcare, industrial manufacturing, telecommunications, and energy will meet here with leading figures from research, industry, and politics. Together, they discuss concrete strategies for scaling innovations and accelerating European technology roadmaps.

Speakers include representatives from Fraunhofer, Intel, GlobalFoundries, Silicon Saxony, Siemens Healthineers, and the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR), who will provide context on current technological and strategic developments in the industry.
