Low noise diodes with variable capacity

Broadcast applications such as 5G require high quality resonators in order to be able to transmit and receive signals with as little interference as possible. Fraunhofer EMFT offers high-quality, low-noise variable capacity diodes, also known as varactors or varicaps, in small to medium quantities (<2 million units per year). An optimized manufacturing process makes the diodes suitable for high-end applications such as variable capacitance oscillators at GHz frequencies.

Fully packaged (SC79) and unpackaged chip patterns are available upon request. Two diode types are currently available with capacitance values of 17pF and 6pF. The breakdown voltage is higher than 31V. These capacitance values are comparable to commercially available diodes such as: BB555, BB857, BB174, BB181, SMV1234, SMV1236.  Both types have a tuning ratio greater than 8 and quality factors of about 1800 @50MHz.

Upon request, we customize our diodes to smaller or larger capacitance values.

Innovative packaging solutions for solderable flip-chip devices will allow even higher frequencies in the future. In the context of research cooperations we also offer the possibility to develop custom-fit solutions for your individual application.
