System Integration for In Vitro Diagnostics

Diagnostic methods for medical applications

In the field of in vitro diagnostic medical devices, Fraunhofer EMFT has already realized a large number of prototypes with optical detector principles. These include devices for detecting bacteria and viruses as well as for analyzing body fluids such as blood. The range of optical detectors used extends from simple photodiodes to photomultipliers based on glass tubes or on silicon avalanche photodiodes. Methods such as absorption, chemiluminescence or fluorescence are used.

Fraunhofer EMFT supports partners in the medical technology sector with extensive expertise in the system integration of in vitro diagnostic devices. Our interdisciplinary team handles the mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical design - always tailored to the specific testing requirements and specifications of our clients. Another key focus is the implementation of secure and flexible connectivity solutions for data exchange, such as wireless interfaces or cloud integration.

Regulatory approval as a medical device remains the responsibility of the partner. However, Fraunhofer EMFT provides technical guidance throughout the approval process and, if needed, supports collaboration with the notified body, which must be involved during development.

Leverage our expert in vitro diagnostics at Fraunhofer EMFT for your specific application needs. We are eager to collaborate and innovate with you - contact us!
